Fitness & Difficulty
A challenging tour for fit road cyclists comfortable with long Alpine climbs. Daily climbing typically ranges from 1,400 to 2,200 m, with ascents at altitude where the thinner air makes pacing important. Arrive with a solid base of climbing kilometres and, if you're coming from sea level, allow a day to acclimatise to the high Engadin before the biggest stages.
Best Season to Ride
The Engadin passes — Albula, Flüela, Bernina and Julier — are generally open from June through October. The high Engadin valley sits above 1,800 m, so mornings stay cool even in midsummer; July and August are ideal for warmth, while late September delivers golden larch forests and quiet roads. The Bernina, kept open for the railway, is among the more reliably accessible high passes.

Is the Bernina Pass suitable for road bikes?
Yes. The Bernina is fully paved with good surfaces and a steady gradient, making it a superb and very scenic road-bike climb alongside the famous Bernina Express railway.

Absolutely. St. Moritz is well connected by the Rhaetian Railway, so point-to-point days are easy to arrange and you can return by train if needed. I build these options into your route plan.
Are there bike rental options in the Engadin?
Yes. Quality road and e-road bikes can be rented in the St. Moritz area. Mention your size and preferences in your inquiry and I'll include rental options in your offer.
